Reclaim Yourself: Restorative Training to Take Back What You’ve Lost

PART ONE: When Transitions Change the Body

When Transitions Change the Body

Our bodies tell the story of our lives. Childbirth, menopause, injury, illness, or emotional upheaval all leave lasting imprints. These transitions don’t just change how we feel in the moment—they can shape how we move, how we view ourselves, and how we live for years afterward.

  1. Emotional transitions: Divorce, caregiving, or grief can push self-care aside, leading to decline in activity.

  2. Pregnancy & postpartum: A quarter of women over the age of 20 experience pelvic floor dysfunction. (UChicago Medicine)

  3. Injury or illness: In most cases, exercise could and should be an important part of recovery after injury.

  4. Menopause & hormonal changes: Women lose up to 20% of bone mass in the first 5 years after menopause, increasing risk of fracture and reducing independence. (Cleveland Clinic)

Here’s the thing: transitions aren’t a sign of weakness—they are simply part of human life. The real problem isn’t you; it’s that most fitness solutions don’t acknowledge or address these common life shifts. Too often women are left to navigate these struggles alone, without guidance or support tailored to their unique needs, leading to consequences like:

  • Decline in strength, flexibility, and balance

  • More aches, pains, and risk of injury

  • Loss of energy and motivation

  • Emotional toll: anxiety, frustration, shame, invisibility, and isolation
